Meet Meredith
Hello! I am the founder of SmartWord Services! I am passionate about education, research, and writing. I have a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and a Phd from Lancaster University (in the United Kingdom). I have worked as a writing tutor, researcher, editor, and writer for several years and understand how challenging the process can be.
Everyone affiliated with SmartWord Services has a postgraduate degree and experience in teaching and writing, so you can be assured you are in good hands! We prioritize confidentiality here, but references are available upon request.

Our Services
Aimed at high schoolers, undergraduates, and MA students, we are here to give you constructive advice on how to approach your writing projects strategically and stylistically. Our tutoring sessions are meant to give you tools you can take into any classroom setting.
Tutoring
Do you already have a piece of writing that needs significant refinement? We can help you edit existing work that needs better clarity, style, consistency or coherence. Note that this service is not for academic essays or works as to preserve authorial integrity. Feedback and proofreading services are better in this case.
Editing
If you feel confident in your writing's content and clarity, then this service may be for you. This is surface-level reading to catch grammatical errors and typos. This service includes no rewrites or adjustments to wording. For an additional fee, we can check citation and referencing style.
Proofreading
This is ideal for college-level essays. Feedback includes offering commentary on an essay's content, ideas, structure, and argument. This is ideal for a strong working draft that may require more reflection and revision. This service is separate from proofreading, as it is aimed at guiding you towards that final draft.

Pricing

Tutoring services begin at $35 per half-hour session for college-bound high school students. To prepare for the session, we ask for a sample of your writing and your specific goals. This can help us give you an accurate estimate as to how many sessions might be needed to see improvement. Often, only one session can provide a good starting point for new writers who are stuck and need some encouragement. College-level tutoring begins at $45 per half-hour session.

Editing services are $50 per hour. For lengthier works that exceed ten pages, we quote based on the word count. We can provide an estimate with a draft.

Proofreading services are $30 per hour for essays under ten pages. Above that, we charge based on word count. Proofreading reference formatting is an additional fee.

Feedback is $75 per hour, as this requires a higher level of expertise and commitment to the project. We can provide an estimate based on a draft. We maintain a strict policy of confidentiality and respect for academic integrity when we offer feedback on work that is aimed at being published.
